High School Spring Team 2017

olympic rowers visit big group shotThe High School competitive teams have 3 distinct seasons on the water: fall, winter & spring.

The fall season is typically focussed on long distance races and conditioning.

The winter season is designed for indoor training and conditioning.

Spring season is characterized by sprint races of 2000 meters.

Both varsity and novice teams travel to regattas on the east coast and the elite boats may qualify for Youth Nationals in June.

Varsity, Junior Varsity and Novice Team program dates:

March 6 - May 25, 2017

The spring season begins while there may still be ice on the Harbor. We start this early in the season because it is necessary to allow sufficient time to peak at the most competitive competitions in April and May. Practices are 5 days/week, Mondays - Fridays, 4:00 - 6:30 PM and Saturdays 8:00 - 11:00 AM. Please note, schedules may vary during early portion of spring season. View our Spring Handbook.

All new rowers to Port Rowing, must complete a swim test BEFORE being allowed on the water. Click here for a copy of our swim test form.

Since academics are important to us as coaches, starting this spring we will introduce 'Port Study Days'. These will be days where we will offer optional practices, so the rower can decide if he/she want to use the available time to study. These days will vary throughout the spring and will be determined by the coaches.

Informational meeting for rowers and parents will be announced. All parents and rowers should attend.

Registration is open for Spring 2017! NOTE: The registration is for both the varsity, junioe varsity and novice/freshman group the same. Registration is divided into women's and men's teams. With the start of this spring season we will start to make a distinction between freshman and novice. The novice category is co-ed for all new rowers. Freshman who have already (middle school) experience will be based on experience placed into the varsity, junior varsity or novice group.
